Comments on the provisions of the Draft Electricity (Amendment)Bill, 2025

The Ministry of Power (MoP), published the Draft Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2025 (Bill) on October 9, 2025, soliciting comments on the proposed changes to the Electricity Act, 2003 (Act). The proposed amendments cover different aspects of the law. These range from the mandate to determine cost reflective tariffs, an increase in membership of the appellate tribunal, an imposition of a timeline for decision making at the Electricity Regulatory Com-missions (Commissions), to the creation of an electric line authority.
